Senior Corporate Counsel Recruitment Project
Background
This client instructed us on a search for a Senior Corporate Counsel. The appointee would join the company’s expanding and newly created European legal team based in the UK.
Our client has, for many years, developed innovative analytical science solutions to support customer discoveries, operations, performance and regulatory compliance. With more than 5,000 employees in 85 different countries around the world, the client’s innovations enable significant advancements in the pharmaceutical, life science and biochemical industries, amongst others.
The remit of the role, reporting into the Head of the European Legal involved a variety of legal work including multi-jurisdictional commercial agreements, IP and some employment work.
Challenge
Given the complexity of the business and the pharmaceutical industry, it was clear from the outset that this role would require a lawyer with specific knowledge and experience in the pharmaceuticals sector or from another science-based business.
Since there is only a small number of pharmaceutical organisations located within a reasonable distance of the client’s particular location, the talent pool was limited in scope.
As such, the approach and narrative used in the recruitment process were vitally important factors.
The specialised nature of the role, combined with the limited pool of relevant candidates in the local market, necessitated a carefully crafted and focused search strategy. Ensuring the right messaging and positioning would be crucial to successfully identifying and attracting the ideal lawyer.
Solution
Florit Legal visited the client’s site to gain insight into their operations, workplace culture, and the long-term vision for integrating a lawyer into their legal team.
Our comprehensive recruitment strategy encompassed a broad advertising campaign alongside targeted headhunting to locate lawyers with either experience from within the pharmaceuticals sector, as in-house lawyers, or from within a law firm acting for pharma clients.
The process culminated in the successful appointment of an experienced in-house lawyer with a background in the pharmaceuticals industry.
