The Cromwell Group General Counsel role reports to the CEO and forms part of the Executive Leadership Team.
Headquartered in Leicester, Cromwell has sales of c. £250m, employs more than 1,700 people, and reaches its 25,000 customers through an extensive product catalogue, website/EDI, 46-strong branch network and large direct sales and service teams. The company’s national contact centre is based in Dudley and is home to nearly 240 team members.
Cromwell supports businesses in the UK and internationally, enabling them to keep their operations running and their people safe; and its goal is to become the easiest company for them to deal with.
The business supports companies such as Beckton Dickinson who make insulin pens, Microsemi who manufacture the microchips for prosthetic limbs, Bombardier who make trains, Airbus and Rolls Royce who make engines for planes, Tata, Honda, Michelin and thousands more.
Founded in 1970 by entrepreneur Michael Gregory, Cromwell has a heritage in providing tools to businesses. The company is famous for supplying cutting tools, power tools and abrasives, hand tools and safety products in addition to a broad range of other industrial supply products. Cromwell stocks nearly 150,000 products and supplies well over half a million products to customers.
Cromwell was acquired by W.W. Grainger Inc. in 2016. Grainger is the world’s leading broad line, business-to-business distributor of maintenance, repair and operating supplies and other related products and services. With more than 3 million businesses relying on Grainger it is uniquely placed to keep the world working.

Following the acquisition by Grainger and a £12m investment in supply chain capacity and centralisation of customer service, Cromwell appointed a new CEO in 2018 to drive the business forward and the newly appointed Cromwell Group General Counsel will play a key role in an exciting programme of work to transform the business.
